Oddly enough, I have revised the back and front of the English 120 online class… units 14-17 are pretty much ready to go. And the first few units as well as the stuff under Course Home are ready. Now, I just have to tackle the middle. Sometime.
My eyes are drying up though, my stomach aches a bit, and I feel like I may have to leave the rest for tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday. Or parts of next week?
I’ve decided to leave the schedule open instead of restricted like I did last summer. If students want to work ahead, that’s okay by me. However, I stated that I wouldn’t grade ahead though. It’d be a bit tough for me to grade all the Paper 1s along with a few Paper 2s and 3s. Too confusing, really. So, we’ll see how this set-up works. I may do something similar with the fall semester – give them more opportunities to work ahead? I need to refer to the feedback my students gave me just this last semester.
While a few students have complained about the MPC (Minute Paper of Corrections – where they correct mistakes I highlighted in their Papers) or the My Words activity (individualized vocabulary lesson), I think I’ll keep them in my routine. I may not be explaining these activities well enough, but I find value in them. With the MPC, students wouldn’t look at their Papers otherwise, and I shouldn’t be the one to proofread again for them – they should do it to begin with (it is part of the writing process, after all). And the My Words activity is not only “easy” points, but it expands their vocabulary if only for a semester. If only a few words stick with them, it’s still worthwhile to me.
*I need to set aside time today to read for an hour and exercise… my legs are starting to feel less sore, so it’s time to get back into the swing of the workout I was doing before the Fargo Marathon.
*Note to those who read this: The rest of the posts for the summer may consist of my notes from reading various books, etc., so, essentially, they may be quite boring. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
