  • English 120 goes VISUAL?

An introduction to P3 which is due Saturday. There will be other assignments to complete while we work on P3 this week. For example, we have to cover Chapter 14 in everything's an argument and Chuck's #10, so there will be activities (or a combo activity) with those readings. I believe there is a bonus CB this week, too. Oh, and if you can attend this, there's extra bonus involved (with a summary of what you learned).

Okay, so, Writing Conferences this week for Paper 2 are underway. True story. If you haven't signed up, the sign-up sheet is on my door. And please don't email me and ask me what times are left blahblahblah. You all have the ability, the last time I checked, to wheel or walk or jog or skip your butts over to my office to sign up for a time or change your time, etc. It's not my fault you didn't sign up or skipped your appointment or put yourself into a food coma over at the Student Center. Another true story. Speaking of food comas, I went to a pancake feed on Saturday. Holy cow.
Anyhow, as for the assignments to complete outside of class while conferences are going on, we have a CB in Unit 4 to tackle. I believe it's a Flickr/Pixlr-type of thing using a Chapter from everything's an argument.
We do need to cover Chuck's #7, too. I think what we'll do with Chuck is this: Read that essay of his... it's about soccer and how soccer stinks and won't be popular, etc. Your assignment will be to pick any sport you like or dislike and make it into a metaphor for life. For example, how is Football like College Life? Or how is Tennis like a Relationship? Pick a sport and make it into a metaphor for something in life. This entry can be placed in the CB, and should be 10+ sentences in length. (If you want to use soccer & Chuck, go for it!)
    1. Paper 2. Due Saturday before midnight.
    2. CB in Unit 4 = Flickr/Pixlr. Due Wednesday before midnight.
    3. CB in Unit 4 = Chuck's #7: sports as a metaphor for something in life. Due Wednesday before midnight.

Watch for an additional assignment on this blog regarding Chuck's #7 starting next Monday.

Part 2 of the Fake Assignment to complete in class... and then a handout/worksheet on Chuck #13 + Chapter 25 (Language & Identity) due for next class time. Oh, and we may have to start class by looking at the CB in Unit 3 where everyone discussed commercials & advertisements that connect with Chapter 17's Fallacies of Argument.

  • English120.

    1. Hand back Fact/Opinion sheets so they can use them for P2. 2. Hand in Mini-Argument after sharing in small groups or with the class? 3. My Words = Web + Visual version online. Look at a few? 4. Videos missed last time ("Gov't Propaganda" (from DVD) & "VNR" (from DVD) & "Corporate Synergy" (from DVD))?  5. CB = watch TV or internet or YouTube = due for next class time. 6. Fake Assignment to complete for next class time.
    Next class time: Chuck's #13 + Chapter 25.
    p.s. There's a bonus opportunity too.

    ||| Definition of Plagiarism = Madonna's "Express Yourself" vs. Lady Gaga's "Born This Way." ||| Look at Facts & Opinions Sheet? ||| Talk more about P2. ||| Videos: "Monoculture" & "Gov't Propaganda" (from DVD) & "VNR" (from DVD) & "Corporate Synergy" (from DVD). Or/and "The Definition" by Brandy... or a definition of the F-Bomb. ||| Complete My Words  (visual = use Wordia? Lexipedia? visuwords.com? qwiki?). ||| Compose a Mini-Argument for Wednesday (theme? group-based?). ||| Do we have a chapter to read too (or any Chuck?)? Shall we add an activity to it?
I have a lot of question marks. That statement should be my motto.

Instead of saying "Right?" all the time, at the end of my sentences, I need to switch it up. Got any ideas?
Oh, and I have decided on another, somewhat un-related, phrase to say to people who want to one-up me or something.
    "You win."
Isn't that what people want to hear anyhow?

"I'm on the right track, baby; I was born this way."
