I wonder if Deb Tannen (or others) have figured out why nieces can’t get in on their uncles’ & aunts’ conversations. This weekend, I felt her theories in my head as I listened, and tried to participate, in conversations. When my uncles and aunts and their visiting cousins were talking, and I chimed in with info, no one seemed to care. Is that an age thing rather than a men versus women communication style? Hmmm… in addition, when in a smaller group of either, sometimes there’s more respect between generations.
p.s. My new couches were delivered last Thursday before our trip to my dad’s hometown for its centennial (Noonan, ND)… I am having a little buyer’s remorse only because the couches are HUGE and my little thrift store chairs are teeny-tiny in comparison. It feels odd to have nice furniture… The iMac cost me more, yet I was so sure of that purchase; I didn’t blink an eye. I guess I am more inclined to buying new electronic devices than home furnishings that get just as much usage. Huh.
