I am not thoroughly convinced that my classes are all THAT hard, yet students (bright students, I might add) can’t seem to pull themselves together in order to surpass an average grade. I don’t get it. I’m a bit dumbfounded. Go to class, write sometimes creatively for fun projects/papers, hand them in on time, and BAM = good grade. My class isn’t one of those listen-to-a-50-min-lecture-and-then-take-an-exam… so, what’s the deal? And, to brag & be blunt all at once, my class is FUN in comparison to most. I make jokes about myself. I say things like, “Let’s jump into that activity next.” I laugh with them. I try hard at remembering their names. I allow vernacular language in their writing. WE BLOG. We watch YouTube videos that are fun AND educational.
I honestly think that:
No matter what a teacher does, no matter how fun a class is, no matter how interesting the topic or activity or project, some students will always tune out and not care.

Amen, sister.
Agreed. Most kids who fail my class are perfectly capable students who just choose not to do the work or are just disorganized. It’s so frustrating.
