  • An idea “stolen” from Ronda: Having students write memoirs (or letters, etc) from the perspective of another person… Paris Hilton, one of the people from the Beat Generation, their grandparents, etc… simply an interesting possibility. And I simply like the idea of placing a mini-Beat Generation module in my English 110 instead of the Poetry Unit (that, actually, could be combined).

A presenter just said that “all students know how to use technology.” Not ALL the students at NDSCS (or any community/technical college, probably)… perhaps at the university, but then one is overlooking older-than-average students, etc.

  • I think that even older students know how to use some form of technology, but many students simply don’t display this. How many students, non-traditional or otherwise, use the Internet on a daily basis? Then again, I did make a number of broad statements in my presentation this morning.

Great blog, by the by. I will be stopping back often.

  • Thank you for your response…

I was quite surprised at how many didn’t know even how to get onto the internet, and, right now, I have a student who waits for me to give her a step-by-step procedure on how to upload her attachments to eCompanion (similar to Blackboard/D2L/etc) which is fine; I like the interaction. Another student I’ve had hadn’t turned on his new laptop until he got to my classroom on the first day of class.

    Everyone makes generalizations.

I’ve just started stating, “some students,” instead of “all” to keep myself from lumping them together – I used to do that a lot.
