  • A book, I’ve asked them to purchase, has come into the library… it’s about using Graphic Novels to build literacy connections. Thus far, I’ve skimmed the first handful of pages, and the research is intriguing. One group published results of a “Comic Book Project” with, I believe, middle-schoolers, and the students had to create an 8-page Comic Book Novel. There was a template involved (asking for text in each piece of the blocked format, typical to a Comic Book) too… so, the percentages of those students whose writing improved was amazing, teachers (90% of ‘em) saw a improvement in student writing, and one teacher commented that it was the first time students didn’t complain about writing. Awesome. There’s more in the book… stay tuned.
