So, the college doesn’t have the money to hire a new faculty member until the fall. Okay, I get that. But then that starts the domino effect. We have to cancel classes that don’t fill (need 10) or have no instructor. Then those students, or the ones who forgot to register when they were supposed to, have to sneak into near-full or full classes. I’ve had two overbooked classes this week. Now, I have absolutely no problem taking more students, if I have the computers for them. Granted, I don’t do everything on eCompanion, but if I want to use the last ten minutes of class for them to do online research or write (and give them points), it’s just easier to use eCompanion. {And it saves trees.}
Education should be all about the students. Making sure faculty members have all they need to teach well should be the number one priority. I guess it’s easy for me to say that because I am a faculty member.
It feels like it’s been such a long week already. And it’s only Wednesday.
