From Wade:
“The S. formula: mucho time spent developing new humanities ideas + trying
things in different delivery formats + newly developed creative writing
course with strong enrollment = happy to have a thriving humanities class!”
That’s a fabulous formula.I thought a lot more students were going to be gone today (for an Ag-related thing in Minot), but the list I received via email tells a different story. I had about ten students missing yesterday afternoon; four of ‘em had legit reasons (according to this email). I have a sneaking suspicion that the same will occur today; many will be gone, but without excused absences. This suspicion is not meant to demean the students, I just simply have that feeling. Then, I am going to have to deal with excuse after excuse. As a teacher, I’ve built up an immunity to excuses and… guilt trips. So, after thinking about this further, a teacher has to decide whether to cover everything they had planned, or skim it down a bit to make things easier on myself when they all return (the ones with excused absences, that is). Dilemma. Plus, the one class has Writing Conferences next week; ‘missing’ students will have to sign up on my door.
p.s. It’s HUG-A-WRITER DAY!

I generally hate missing class. D: Last semester was horrible because I missed a lot of everything and it drove me crazy. I’m lazy, but not THAT lazy.
