  • For Creative Writing today, I’m having my students create a character (or start thinking of one to use for our Fiction Unit during the next two weeks). So, I figure… I should come up with one too. Long ago (decades we’re talkin’), I started a “novel” about a girl named Tatum. Tomboy. Curious. Environmentalist. Animal-lover. I’d like to return to her. Make her grow up. Yet, I’d also like to create a character based on “the perfect girl” – the ones I see places who are dressed perfectly, have perfect hair, and perfect skin. It’s always bugged me when I’m having a lovely fashion-day and some chic looks even more “put together.” … AND I’d also like a character similar to my sister, Alisa. Full of spunk. Chatty. Party-girl. Has no filter to what she says. People want to be her. Storyteller. All smarts, some ambition, no worries. And underneath: Guarded, Guilt-ridden, Indecisive. I think I need to definitely create a character that has SOME of me in her. I don’t think I could write from a male’s p.o.v., but maybe I am wrong?
