  • Sidenote: Was watching rockDocs on VH1 last night, and I got sucked into their documentary series on the Sexual Revolution. Very interesting. Never been in any history books I’ve read, nor has it been laid out like it was (I’m sure there’s bias all over it; however, it’s a bias that is in my favor since it was leaning towards the liberal side of things… go VH1!?). Anyhow, I guess what I was so disturbed by was that much of these riots/talks/what-have-you over Gay Rights and Women’s Lib and Inter-racial this and that happened SO LONG AGO, yet NOTHING HAS CHANGED. Nothing from my point-of-view. Gays are still shutting themselves into closets, the N-word is used freely, the F-bomb is still considered a very radical word to have on anything, and women aren’t equal in the workplace (or in the ’home’, for that matter). And I got mad thinking about it. I was told that I had to take history classes so we wouldn’t repeat history. But what I am learning now (it sucks to get older, let me tell you) is that we DO REPEAT history. In fact, it seems as if we HAVE NOT EVOLVED as a culture/society at all. These documentaries were talking about crazy riots and protests from the 50s and 60s and 70s. Before I was born. Thirty years later, where are we? WHERE ARE WE NOW?

And THEN there are all these previews for the Sex and The City movie. Everywhere. Normally, I don’t care about movie previews, but I actually want to see this movie without any previous information or visual aids. Well, many sources are claiming that Carrie marries Big in the movie “afterall.” In fact, the movie trailer starts out with the movie-voice-dude saying something like, “Okay, she’s been single for a long time; let’s get on with this crap and get her married already.” GEEeeeeeeezzzzZZ. Okay, I paraphrased heavily there, but ugh. Or maybe it was something more like, “There comes a time when… a girl needs to quit having fun and start making babies.” Yep. That was a horrible paraphrasing, but it’s funny. To me.
