  • Friday night, my dad mentioned how he actually reads THE WHOLE PAPER on Sundays (or probably everyday, who knows). I’m fairly certain he means The Fargo Forum, and that Sunday paper is HUGE. Bought one today… and I am a skimmer. Skimmed & read about how the major colleges in our areas are doing fundraising-wise… skimmed over sports and the Twins and the girls who tried out in the Olympic trials. Skimmed some of the political pieces & giggled at the Letters to the Editor (used to be head of the Opinion section at NDSU’s Spectrum – some people would get so torked & then use bad grammar… hee hee hee). Then, when I pulled out the Jobs section, I saw an article on the first page about using the acronym SCAMPER to find jobs. SCAMPER stands for “Substitute, Combine, Adapt, Modify/Magnify, or Put to other uses: Eliminate or Reverse/Rearrange.” The author found this in a collection of cards called Thinkpak: A Brainstorming Card Deck. Huh. Example: If one is job searching, could he/she Substitute what they are doing with something else? Could he/she Combine efforts? Could he/she Adapt something that has worked for others? Etc. Essentially, it’s a deck of cards that teachers could probably find useful too.

So, reading the newspaper today… okay, skimming the newspaper today proved fruitful!

p.s. Does anyone else find Denise Richards’ laugh contagious?
