Typically, I am all about breaking rules. Don’t wear white after Labor Day. Get your hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks. Stop at stop signs (I prefer a strong yield). Don’t talk back to your parents. Eat dessert after your meal. Big girls don’t cry. If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.
But right now, I’m dealing with rules that have been changed without my knowledge/input. These rules were originally set in place to protect me, save me from insanity at work. Let’s just put the rule this way: When ____ happens, we ______. Okay, so right now in a few instances, the second blank is getting changed/revised/whatever. It was always something else, but suddenly, it’s being changed by others. It’s be revised without my input or others’ input. And the people who’ve revised the second part don’t have to deal with the consequences of what could happen with the new change.
I’m not just going to complain, I’m going to offer a solution which is to return to the original rule. Then research the revision before implementations. Show us, those who will be affected, the benefits. Then “break” the rule and make it a new one.
I’m hoping, in one particular instance, that it’s STILL about student satisfaction, student retention, teacher’s preference and NOT THE MONEY. I’m hoping… but I do work in higher ed.

i hate it when people change the rules that don’t affect them and do affect me. or the rules change OUGHT to affect them, but they ignore it and just enforce it with everyone else. i used to work at this summer camp. one year the director’s wife decided the girls were no longer allowed to wear tank tops. so she proclaimed a new rule: no sleeveless shirts. a week later some promotional items came back from the printer, and there she was in her official picture, wearing a tank top.
@PhilippiansThree14 - Jeez… that sounds about right. The high school I taught at was lenient with the girls whose moms/parents were on the school board, as far as the tank top-wearing and mini-skirts. It was so ugly & political.
Thnx for your comment.
To my thoughts all you declare is extraordinary
