My sister is right. Don’t tell her I said that.
I’d add in there something about hypocrisy. Everyone’s a hypocrit. Yes, even me.
Recently, she wrote something (as a prologue to something else). In it, she declared three things she considers rules now that she’s worked in various industries:
1) People are stupid.
2) People don’t read.
3) People want to be the exception to the rule.
These rules of hers could fall into the three biggest complaints by teachers/professors as well.
Example: My ankle is all busted. Much of my family says “Go get it X-rayed” yet in the same breath they’ll say, “Oh, when I sprained mine, I was running on it in a week.” It’s so frustrating. Either I’m an idiot for running on it or a wimp for not, etc.

Doc Sullivan has a folder full of pre-made responses to student excuses. Thought that was clever and useful.
I’ll add one from Dan: “Love yourself. Remember that only you can make yourself happy.” I’m working on that one.
hahaha I love it, and it’s both sad and true.
That’s hilarious.
“Either I’m an idiot for running on it or a wimp for not, etc.”
Oh man. Isn’t that the truth! That frustrates me to no end!
People ARE stupid. That was the number one thing I learned from my 10+ years of working retail.
If it’s sprained you just need to use it (gently) and give it time. If it’s broken you need to be off it and have it looked at. This comes from the woman who had 2 sprains and 1 break within a two year period. (Oh, and a horse fell on that same leg during that time also.)
Listen to your Nom! She said to have it x-rayed if it’s still swollen! Better safe than sorry. Plus, the radiation will warm you up on a chilly day!
@PhilippiansThree14 - I’ve been walking on it (without heels) since I did whatever to it. I realize you can walk on a broken one, but it only hurts when I accidentally smack it on something or try to put sox on… okay, now those seem like basic things that shouldn’t cause pain so I’m just being weird about going in to have it looked at… ugh…
@ChubEchpmnk - It’s NOT swollen, nom! Sheesh. It’s just bruised and when I touch around the bone, it hurts.
p.s. I detest clinics or admitting I need help. Can’t it just fix itself?
@tokidokiforever - Pre-made responses. I LOVE that idea. Maybe instead of “Unfortunately, I have to stick to my syllabus’ rules” I could put something random and vague with lots of errors in it. That would REALLY confuse them and make me giggle.
@teacher47 - if it’s not swollen and just hurts around the bone when you smack it, there’s probably some internal bruising. but if it hurts less each day, you’re most likely okay. again, however, i am NOT a doctor. just experienced in ankle injuries.
@PhilippiansThree14 - It looks more and more like my foot everyday. Less bruising and the swelling is almost non-existent. Thanks for your feedback.
@teacher47 - just call me Dr. FatAnkle
