  • Of the things worth fighting for… trying to get students to come to class the week of Thanksgiving (as well as “Hunting Friday”) is just not at the top of my list. At all. I’ll cover what I need to cover, but if students miss, I’m just not going to freak out about it. What good does that do anyhow? The activities and assignments will still be assigned, and perhaps some bonus points will be available, but other than that, I’m not going to bend to their wants for this week nor am I going to introduce brand-new topics and ideas. Tone down class a bit, and hold students accountable for what they miss due to travel. I’ve even heard that some students caught plane rides home over this last weekend already. Huh.

  • It’s tough to meet student expectations without feeling like you’re surrendering to the hordes. Your middle-of-the-road choice seems reasonable.

  • Oh, thank goodness.  I plan to let my kids miss all their extracurriculars this week.  Though I do plan to make them go to school.

  • @GreekPhysique - @ordinarybutloud - On one side, I don’t want to stress myself out; the other side says “Hey, it’s still a school week”…

So, yea. I’m not going to introduce a Massively Major Assignment Wednesday in my afternoon classes; that’s a given. However, there will be activities that will help students with the big assignments that are due when we return from break.

I simply don’t want to hear whining. “Well, I HAVE to leave Wednesday morning because ____.” It all collapses with the ‘is it excused or unexcused’ if a student is from Montana or out-of-state. I detest dealing with any of it.
