  Materials Needed: -Sign-In Sheet -Pen -Class Roster -Syllabi -eCompanion handout(s) -Books

  Before Starting: -Put call number on board.

  1. Intro to me (teaching here, NDSU, BLHS): Every student could be like my dad and detest English. 2. Intro to each other (names & favorite TV show). 3. Intro to class via syllabus. Get book(s) soon. 4. Intro to theme (a. more thinking than writing, b. not like any other English class, c. organization over grammar): What is writing? What is an essay? How do we know? 5. Intro to eCompanion with handouts. First assignment for next time is to get into eCompanion. 6. “In high school, were you told you couldn’t write well? Okay. Then write badly. Get it out of your system.” Assignment: For second class time, write a bad essay.
