My English 120 students will start writing about controversial words soon… arguing their true definitions. Words like “normal,” “slut,” “good person,” are the ones typically snatched up, but I’m wondering what is the most controversial word: “gay” or “retarded.” I’m uncertain how I feel about them… definitions do change (or maybe that’s my opinion?), and I guess I have a very academic approach to words. Then again, I detest the N-word…
