Say-The-Wrong-Thing. Done.
Yesterday, in a low-key assessment meeting, we were given information on how a presentation went at the Higher Learning Commission in Chicago last week (?). We're ahead of many colleges in how and what we assess, but all 8 of us giggled about how people didn't think those in the Upper Midwest did anything... but hunt buffalo and feed cows. The one thing I wish I could take back was that at one point I made a comment about how, "They just think we sit around wearing Indian skins." What I meant was buffalo skins. I guess, technically, with all the Sioux controversy, some in other areas of the country could potentially think we kill Native Americans for fun and then wear them. Sounds awful, but I've heard worse... anyhow, my point wasn't to demean Native Americans, but do demean those who've never been here and don't think we have highways.
Then, at one point, I really wanted to share that we need to "Work Smarter, Not Harder" in our classrooms. Instead of leading into that quote, I just through it out there all dork/stream-of-conscious like. Ugh.
"Talking without thinking is like shooting without aiming."
- Seen on a Dixie Chicks video.I guess I shouldn't bash myself so much. Maybe no one even caught my mistake and oddly placed quote. I'm in my head too much occasionally. Errrg.
