  • My Own Press Release (#ndscs)...

The prompt for my students today:

If you could send out a press release to the world about our town (Wahpeton) or the campus (NDSCS), what would it say?
    That was all I said.
Since I want to keep writing with them when we do this in class, here's my attempt:
    Dear Citizens of the Nation,
We've been in the news lately, and not in a way that we like. Some say all press is good press, but this may be the exception.
I want to say that no matter what really, really happened on our campus (and only a few - literally - really, truly know) regarding the football player, we are not an anti-gay school. The media is taking that side. Some people WANT to believe that that is what really, really happened.

This week, I even gave an AP person an interview about our very own Diversity Council on campus; that interview & our Council's efforts have not been publicized. Our professors and students (of various backgrounds) have not had their say, either. Parts of the country will want to think this way of us because we're rural, but that's an unfair assumption. Please don't lump the assumed actions of a few with all of us.
I would NOT teach at a place that wasn't tolerant of diverse ideas and backgrounds.
