The Positivity Project.
I wonder how hard this would be.I typically always seek out solutions or goals... oh hell, it'd be tough for anyone who has repressed anger like I do.The rules of this experiment are as follows:1. No complaining/criticizing/gossiping. Defined by Tim Ferriss as: "Describing an event or person negatively without indicating next steps to fix the problem."2. Internal complaints do not count. The idea here is that when we begin to stop vocalizing these thoughts, they will eventually cease to exist. Spoken words influence the mind's words.3. Constructive criticism is ok, if you are voicing negativity for a reason that leads to a productive end goal. Practice clear communication!I read about this Project here, and the list is from the link, too. -

A meeting, a weigh-in, and then another meeting. Then some grading - a.k.a. assessment. As in, let's catch up and some stuff. I have to finish up the Fake Assignments in my 3pm English 110 (which aren't due back to them until tomorrow I realize) and then tackle the online English 120 assignments from last week. When all is "said and done," I'll go home to a crockpot of Italian yummy-ness. True story.

Everything here (text and images) is from freetech4teachers.com.
---"One of the reasons that I like to do both text and live interviews is that it gives me the opportunity to reflect on my practices both as a blogger and as a teacher. I was thinking about this this morning when it hit me, "more teachers should interview each other."
"Teachers interviewing teachers would provide a forum that stimulates reflection on our classroom practices. This could be done as an exercise in a staff meeting or department meeting. Develop a set a interview questions, but feel free to go off-script as necessary, and have teachers actually conduct interviews with each other. The interview doesn't necessarily have to appear on the web to be a meaningful exercise. In fact, in some cases it might be best to not have it appear on the web because some teachers may be reluctant to share their true thoughts on the web."
---Maybe we should invite our online students to campus for a f2f meeting about online courses

Books Books Books.
Two Days Late and Half Off.
[our trivia name last night]
The bf gave me The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy last night as my Valentine's gift (among chocolates, etc.)...
that got us/me thinking of other "classics" I'd like to read:
The Grapes of Wrath
A Wrinkle in Time
Lord of the Flies
War of the Worlds
Slaughterhouse 5
Him = The 3rd Policeman
I told him that I'll start on Hitchhiker's once I wrap up David's book.
Then I may have to read Klosterman's other fictional piece - Eating the Dinosaur.
p.s. We talked about the TV show Lost and how they used a lot of stuff from Alice In Wonderland; that got me thinking = what if I assigned that book in English 110. Students could dig into the pop culture pieces that use that book? -
Good Morning, Kitten.
From RowdyKittens, again. Don't get upset; that blog is awesome sauce, man:
So what’s real life? Real life is shivering by the campfire, eating marsh-mellows and drinking beer; Real life is saying thank you to your spouse for cooking up dinner on the camp stove; Real life is feeling your legs burn, as you pedal your bike slowly, up a very big hill; Real life is all about opening yourself up and being vulnerable. -
Authenticity = Vulnerability?

Play Time: Web 2.0 Tools...
a) Ways to announce stuff to online classes:
--- Blabberize.
--- Animoto. Already have a few created!
--- Jigsaw Planet.
--- Prezi?
b) Options/Additions for products/projects/papers:
--- Presentations: Prezi, Slideshare, VoiceThread, SlideRocket...
--- Glogster.
--- Wordle.
--- Wikis or Google Docs for group work, online or on-campus.
--- ToonDoo (below) for Creative Writing.
--- ToonDoo (below) for English 105 assignments that show communication in the workplace or in their fake companies.
--- ToonDoo (below) for English 120 assignments to show argument.
--- Use PocketMod & CutePDF = "You can create a 7-8 page word document, convert it to a PDF (using a free service such as CutePDF) and then make your document into a small little book. Students can create their own content to tell stories, review terms and share ideas. Teachers can use it to deliver content, help students review vocab, science terms and math equations and much more. Teachers could provide the PDF on their class website for kids to assemble at home, they could hand them out at school, or the kids could create their own content and make their own books."
--- Use TimeGlider to create a timeline in Creative Writing of an author?
--- Use TimeGlider to create a timeline of an argument for an English 120 project.
c) To embed/use in English 120 Online:
--- Finding & Citing Digital Sources, a VoiceThread video created by others.
--- TED presentations. Find some!
--- Use Screencast-o-Matic. It takes video of desktop as I show 'em how to put in footnotes or search for blogs (for the GBP), etc. Or try ScreenJelly to do the same thing?
--- Use ClipNabber to take videos off of YouTube.
--- Use Newseum to see what's making the headlines in papers around the world.
More brainstorming:
I'm already thinking that students in English 120 could create VoiceThreads or Wikis or Animoto videos for their Shortfolios at the end of the semester. Creative Writing students (if we do a photo essay, here's an example) could create VoiceThreads too for projects as well as Wikis and Animoto videos.
Other tools:
Zamzar does free online conversion of files. Woot!More stuff:
--- Have students sum up the chapter in a tweet-sized bite?
--- A wordle of the many, many web2.0 tools out there!
