    ||| Hand back the Fake Assignments and talk about them. ||| Conduct Peer Review = Use markers and do a point system (give a classmate a point for each genre, a point for X, etc. I'll create a point system and have it on the screen or on a handout). ||| Next class time: Open-book quiz?, P2 Presentations, and then Sir Ken's video "Rethinking Education." |||

  • English 110 Loves Fake Assignments, Take 2.

    1) Bonus Test. 2) Fake Assignment, Part 2, Due in Class = I'll hand out the document that is linked to show some of my own examples. 3) P2 work time = Rough draft of P2 due next class time!
*We'll save the video by Sir Ken Robinson for Monday; we may watch it after or before completing some Peer Review for P2 so bring a rough draft of that paper/project.

Below: Something funny I found on Facebook this morning:

    (p.s. It's Bismarck.)

  • English 110 Loves Fake Assignments.

    1) "Ticked Off Tuesday On Wednesday" Bits & Pieces. 2) Hand in Library sheets. 3) Animoto Videos. 4) Fake Assignment for Friday = I'll hand out a guide and create some of my own examples to show students how to complete the activity. = Library Day.

Meet us at the library. There will be two handouts to complete before the next class time related to this Library Day (& Research, etc.). Yep. Don't forget to complete the Animoto Video Trailer for your P2 topic for next class time, too, and put it in the correct spot in eCompanion.

  • English 110, P2 Brainstorming and Research Planning.

Reminders first: P1.5 Due tonight before midnight. And the revision of P1.
Handouts next: P2 handout and Chelsea Handler's interview with Katie Couric.
Videos: Sir Ken Robinson's “Bring on the learning revolution!”? “The Story of Stuff"? Or save for next week?
Then: Purple handout with the graphic organizers.
Then: Have them try out a few sites: mashpedia, sweetsearch, sortfix, twurdy.com & qwiki.com! Read this too, perhaps.
On Friday: Library Day (there will be an attached activity).
Next Wednesday: Animoto Video Trailer - place URL in correct spot under the unit for P2.
p.s. Don't forget to Sign up for a Topic...

  • English 110.

repeat 1. Hand in assignments (G.C. Ad and My Words). 2. Bits and Pieces (prep for P2). 3. Intro to P2. (Yes, we have overlap with the redo of P1 and P1.5, but I know you can handle it). 4. Videos ("Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics" - TED.com; "Rethinking Education," and "The State of Wikipedia."). 5. Sign up for a Topic - do not duplicate what others are researching. 6. For Wednesday: Delicious.com (optional) and Wikipedia page to print.

On Wednesday: Hand in revised P1 & P1.5 (before midnight)... look at Katie Couric's interview with Chelsea Handler, watch "The Story of Stuff" video, fill out purple handout (graphic organizers), try out some different search engines, and then find out what's happening Friday and next Wednesday (intro to Animoto).

  • English110.

Ever notice how those who NEED to read something - don't - and those who don't need to - DO? Weird, man. Okay, today in class:
    1. Hand in George Carlin Visuals/Pictionary activities w/page numbers on 'em (pages 168-216 needed to have been read & used).
    2. Video on George Carlin from Qwiki?
    3. Video(s) on interviews (funny, but bad one on YouTube and possibly more Dave Chappelle?).
    4. Talk more about P1.5 = where should they be for next class time?
    5. My Words due for next class time, but we're going to switch it up. [wordia.com... www.knoword.org?]
    6. The last of George due for next class time + a reading activity (of course... probably an advertisement).
    7. Bonus "Spelling" Test.

I wonder if assigning these reading activities makes them actually READ the material or if they are reading the first page and just using that for their activity. I suppose in the future, I could somehow incorporate the beginning, middle, and end of a reading.
