    > English 110 students will create a texting dictionary (create a new “text” phrase essentially) as a class after we try out the “write an essay using texting terms only” Friday… Tomorrow: Hand back the “bad” essays and look at the elements of “bad” essays, introduce Paper 1, YouTube videos?, take Syllabus Quiz…
    > English 120 students will create a slang dictionary (create a new “slang” phrase essentially or write up one that’s changed/new) as a class after we look at the 1969 Current Slang brochure Friday… Tomorrow: Hand back “bad” arguments and look at the elements of “bad” arguments, introduce P1 and look at P1′s PPT, assign CB, read chapters 1 & 2 for Friday…
    > FYE 101 has three units in it ready to rock-n-roll for Monday’s first class; I just have to print off the syllabus sometime this week.

    get over it…
    > In English 105 this morning, a few students didn’t come up to the front desks to watch their fellow classmates’ PPTs. Now, I assume immediately that they weren’t done and were using class time to finish/complete their PPT. Beyond that, I got some barely audible flack about not knowing everyone’s names. Why can’t they say, “Hey, I’m Bob and this is my PPT on ___.” Sheesh. To add to my irritation, not everyone showed the PPTs because we ran out of time; we wasted probably 10-15 minutes just in waiting for people to walk up and show theirs on the teacher’s station. I realize I should’ve made a list and had them all sign up for a slot, but in the past, they’ve never been this pokey. With that said, those who weren’t finished and waited it “out” now have an extra day to wrap it up. Ridiculous. So, how do I assess these students? I guess I just assume they had the best of intentions and assess based on the quality of the PPT instead of getting torked off about everything else. The slackers will appear eventually.

I like having a laid-back style to my teaching; however, I feel it gets taken for granted. And this would be one of those moments when I feel that the most.
