shopping

  • Spent the Fourth inside (ah, air-conditioning!) shooting darts with two of my family members, my significant other, and two friends of my siblings... not to shabby of a time even if I include the teasing I received about my shopping habits. I kind of wish I would've gotten to see some fireworks, but on my way up to Fargo Tuesday night (on a whim, my sister invited me up), I saw quite a few get shot off in the distance of I-29.

While at Chub's Pub last night, I had a daydream about having an NDSCS Fashion Show. I have no idea where the idea came from, but it made me think of the publicity it could cause. We could scout out models from high schools in the area, get money for prizes from stores in town and in Fargo, have stores and the bookstore donate clothes to be shown off (could have a contest on making the coolest NDSCS outfit in black and red?), invite fashion students at NDSU to create a few designs... It all just kind of came to me; it may be a far-off or silly idea, but it could create buzz for the city/college. Ooh... and we could have even more fun with it if each dept (even the technical ones) showcased their own designs. John Deere uniforms... plumbing outfits... attire made out of automotive equipment? It could be quite funny & fun...

This idea is somewhat like my idea to have an NDSCS Film Festival (students create mini-documentaries of our campus, we show them in the Cultural Center one night, and the winner gets their movie showcased on the NDSCS web site for all to view); it'd be A LOT OF WORK.

  • I was going to get some work done today from the Fargohouse, but... I think I'd rather shop some more (found some good Christmas deals last night). I would like to, however, get some things completed this week... like finding controversial images for both PPTs I have been pondering. I don't want to leave a lot to do next week, but I also don't want to miss out on just relaxing these last days of 2006.

    And... I need some breakfast.

  • pinetree I ran smack dab into a pine tree branch yesterday before the monthly Newbie Faculty meeting. The cause = winding blowing + hair in my face + my ability to not watch where I am going ever. I sat through most of the meeting with a runny right eye. Probably looked like I was crying and/or got into a fight. Wonderful.

Last night, I had semi-nightmares about today's classes. I dreamt that my English 110 student showed clips of movies as their PPT MusicVideos. I sat, in the dream, getting more and more ticked off that they hadn't worked on their projects at all. Halfway through the dream, I realized I was dreaming. I still didn't find any humor in what was occurring, however. Even though I had that dream, and even though I know we'll run into "technical difficulties" here and there today and Friday, I think I am worrying for no apparent reason. This shouldn't be too shocking.

Other Items: It's John Deere Day, and that means my English 105 class will be quiet once again (only 3 students in the class aren't in the John Deere program); it's a good thing this week consists of Work Days for their final projects. Beyond that, I am going to sneak downstairs to the Cider & Cookies that are going to be handed out from 2-4pm. Mm mm. And... lastly, I have to trek up to Fargo after classes in order to take a family photo with the clan. Oooof.

*Note To Self: Need to get over to the bookstore tomorrow (?) and buy t-shirts for both set of grandparents; they are having a 30% off sale this week through Friday!

  • Monday night: Christmas shopping in FF.
Tuesday night: TA meeting & Laundry?
Wednesday night: Family photo & dinner in Fargo.
Thursday night: Earl & Office, of course!
    Friday night: ?
Weekend: Grading... finish up English 110's P3s, English 105's Proposals/Projects (any early portfolios)
Next Monday: Regular classes (110: Final Test, Eval of PPT, My Words; 105: Portfolios, FC Presentations)
Next Tuesday-Thursday: Finish up this semester & start to prepare for Spring...

I am still stuck on my dad and my brother as far as Christmas gifts go, but I have time... I am quite content to leave this weekend for grading... curled up with hot chocolate, keeping warm in my apt with my three short Christmas trees hanging out in the corner... This is how I hope things go.

  • Sometimes it takes years,
sometimes it only takes a moment,
    sometimes it takes therapy,
    and sometimes it takes...
a few emails from friends, a margarita, and some Christmas shopping
to make one realize what's important.

[Did you know that there is a downtown "mall" in Fargo? The Black Building? I never knew...
p.s. I love Zambroz, Babb's coffee house, and this newly found site.]

    Happy Birthday, Dad!

  • [Think of OK Go's "Do What You Want" as the theme song.] There's something a bit calming about spending a weekend alone. I need some quiet now and then. I finished reading one book and continued with another (recreational ones based in psychology/sociolinguistics), I ventured to the cities to do some real shopping (found some new running shoes), and I watched Vikings football yesterday while reading the Fargo Forum. (Bison beat UC-Davis!)

This week could end up being a calm one... or it could end up chaotic. I have writing conferences with my English 110 students, English 105 students will finish up their Survey Reports, I am sure a few advisees will want to meet with me, and then Thursday afternoon, I take off for Mankato to present a collaborative essay on blogging.

Oh... and Election Day is tomorrow; I had better figure out where to go - I don't think I have ever voted in Wahpeton before.

p.s. A little sidenote to the first paragraph - NDSU offers a Gender & Communication course during the summer (well, they did last summer anyhow) that I may want to consider. I'd also like to take a drawing class too.
