  • 1. I’m attempting to finish up some small assignment grading in the 10am class. That way, in that particular class, I only have 1.5 small assignments to check when I get back to the office & Project 4. I’ll need Microsoft Publisher for these things, and one small assignment was handed in on paper (the Company to Company letters). When we return on Monday, they will have known about P5 and will sign up for Presentation times. It looks like Thursday won’t be a presentation day, though, because I have a follow-up appt. This class wraps up after Easter, so it’ll be kind of a rush to the finish line…

    2. As for my two other on-campus classes, I’ll have small assignments to assess as well as P2 and P3.
    3. In my online courses, I’ll have the typical things to assess that were due last week; P2 in Eng120, etc.
If I end up having to assess things every single day (and even next weekend), so be it. I’m typically a very fast grader, so if JUST this one time I slack off a bit because of a surgery, OH WELL. :)

  • After a mini-pow-wow with my bf, I may leave the grading for the end of the week or even next week.

It can all wait, he says, and he’s right. My healing up is a bit more important.
  • Today’s Most Basic Goal: To assess the prompts & W/Rs in Unit 4 of the 10am class…
    And maybe more?

  • Goals for this Week/ Spring Break:

    — Grade some things (all small stuff, at least; leave the papers if need be) so that next week, I don’t return to campus & have a heart attack.
    — Hit up a Target or Walmart for some must-have items.
    — Write more.
    — Keep resting.

  • Update.

    1. Started reading a new book (see below).
    2. Did my taxes.
    3. Started two new blogs to go with two book ideas.

    Next week:
Grade some things from f2f classes & continue working on 1 & 3 above.

    Leave for first week back:
    Online classes’ stuff.

    Fun things:
    Got a package from ASOS.
Purchased vintage heels on ebay = Yves St. Laurent.
Bought two pairs of heels from Zara, too.

  • oh, I wonder wonder…

I haven’t heard a lot from my f2f students on campus this week; either they all understood my instructions (and I had things lined up well online) OR they aren’t doing any of it. Or there could be an option C here I’m unaware of. Huh.

In a few hours, we’re heading up to Fargo for my post-op. I have a lot of questions & I hope my body is progressing the way she wants it to.

  • Update.

Surgery Friday: Went well. I got really, really nervous for nothing. Very little pain now (thanks to hydrodocone although I’m taking less & less of it). Got to hospital at 5am, went under around 7, surgery from 8-11, came out of it all at about noon… my sis visited from 5-6:30pm & the bf was with me almost the whole time.

Saturday: Home to rest. Hospital bill should be interesting; most is covered (80%?) but still… Had a decent breakfast & El Toro soup once we got home.

Sunday: Rest. Lots of short naps. Watched Airplane. The bf made pork chops, taters, & corn = good stuff. I think he got me DQ later that night. He noticed I looked super pooped after our pork chop lunch…

Monday, yesterday: One big nap at about 3:30 (until almost 6?) after hitting salon (a hair stylist washed, dried, & styled my hair for me due to my limited arm movements) & eating fish sammies w/bf from BK. He got me a shake, too! Pre-salon, I took a shower. That went better than expected, too. I had a dream about eating Lucky Charms so he got me some for dinner. :) I’ve been well taken care of by him!

Tuesday, today: This is my usual grading day on campus, so I’m trying to keep up with that habit. I’ve assessed some things in the Eng120 Online course already. I was up at 6am compared to about 8am yesterday, so my nap may come earlier? I’m trying not to “be a hero” and not rest or take drugs when I need them. I do want to heal & use this “time off” wisely! If I could be just taking ibuprophen w/a cat nap next week, that’d be awesome, of course!

Wed, tomorrow: We may do our taxes; I bought TurboTax awhile back & I’m using my return for the surgery $ anyhow. My parents return from AZ.
Thurs: Post-op in Fargo that morning. We may go get sushi somewhere & just walk around at a few stores to see how much energy that takes from me (and if any major pain occurs).
Fri: The girls I call friends on campus may come over & visit me?

Okay. Back to grading. I wonder if I should leave my on-campus grading (gave students online assignments for March1-8) for next week; I could just knock all that grading out of the park on Tues or Wed. I should watch another movie today or start on a new book! I finished the one below already.

p.s. Last year, at about this time, we were on our way, or already in, NYC! That was a fun trip!
p.p.s. I gotta say it’s a bit “sad” that it took a surgery to get me to slow down. Oh well. I’m a go-getter, and that’s okay.

  • *insert swear words*

How on earth am I supposed to change my students?

Not ONLY am I attempting to improve their reading and writing skills, but today I realized I have yet ANOTHER “challenge” or “task” or “something like those words.”
Changing their racist & homophobic attitudes and ideas.
Yes, racist and homophobic remarks have always popped up my classrooms verbally. Like ugly bubbles in a glass of Diet Coke.
But now they are showing up in student papers.
I guess I should put a clause into every projects’ instructional guide? = “No homophobic language or racist language allowed. Don’t even try it.” Because YA KNOW WHAT? Sure, George Carlin is vulgar. He’s got F-bombs shooting out of him like fireworks on July 4th, but swear words don’t mean much when they are just thrown into the air.
Example: If I walked into a classroom, and just said the f-word. That’s it. Just “F**k.” Students might giggle, but that’s it. If I said “F*g” or the n-word. By itself. Nothing else. Someone could easily get hurt by that, and I know some students would say that PEOPLE GET OFFENDED by everything, but they have a REASON to get offended by the latter words I brought up and not the former. I guess this is my opinion, but no one is set apart from another with the f-word. In a classroom of mixed religions and races and backgrounds, the f-word could offend the uber religious, maybe, but only because they don’t like it not because they identify with the word, like the other words I’ve mentioned.
So, yeah, I’m a weirdo. I don’t care if I hear the f-bomb in class (as long as it’s not used WITH other derogatory words, of course), but I can not deal with the n-word or anything derogatory towards other races and sexualities. Ugh ugh ugh.
